0x News, March 11, according to Cointelegraph, Jamaica's Prime Minister Andrew Holness has announced that the country's central bank will airdrop $16 worth of Jam-Dex, the central bank's digital currency, to early adopters in a bid to promote widespread adoption.

With data showing that approximately 17% of the Jamaican population is currently unbanked, the use of a central bank digital currency could be of help to many of the poorer Jamaicans. The cryptocurrency community has previously questioned the name of Jamaica's central bank digital currency, 'Jam-Dex', as 'Dex' in cryptocurrency terms usually refers to a decentralized trading platform, i.e. a place to buy and sell cryptocurrencies, and the name could cause confusion for many in the industry.
