Digital platform Ikonia has launched an NFT sale to raise funds for charities in Ukraine. Dubbed "Stand with Ukraine," more than 43 million versions of NFT will be sold for $10 each with the goal of raising $432,875,120. Each time an NFT is sold, 10% of the royalties will be donated to the charity in perpetuity.
Ikonia, a digital platform based in Kiev and Gothenburg, will sell 43,287,512 NFTs, one for each Ukrainian citizen. They say 100% of the proceeds will go to one of the three Ukrainian charities reviewed by Ikonia. Buyers can choose which one their donations go to.
Each version of "Standing with Ukraine" NFT was created in collaboration with Colombian/New York artist Felipe Posada, who designed the work free of charge.
NFT can be purchased with a credit/debit card, ensuring that the series is easily accessible to the public as well as to those who are already NFT-savvy. They say that, excluding unavoidable fees and taxes, 100% of the proceeds will be donated to charity.
NFT is cast on Polygon. It is known as an eco-friendly, extended Ether-based blockchain.
The drop is part of Ikonia's MAUER collection, which to date has raised over $264,000 for charity through the NFT release. The MAUER collection was released to draw attention to the fact that the Berlin Wall was built 60 years ago.
Stand with Ukraine
Ikonia itself has employees in Ukraine. Ikonia's CEO Patrik Arnesson said the scale of the invasion took everyone by surprise. "The freedom, history and soul of Ukraine are being threatened as we speak. We cannot sit idly by; we must provide support. The money generated by these NFTs goes entirely to three amazing charities that will directly improve the lives of those who need it most.
"If every NFT were purchased, we would raise more than $430 million for those in need. We are calling on the global NFT community and NFT programs – like Bored Apes, Cryptopunks, Doodles and others – to join forces and pledge to donate proceeds in this beautiful country's darkest hour to this beautiful country.
"Together, we can defend ourselves against aggression. The Russian invasion has put Ukraine in danger, including some of our teams in the capital city of Kiev. As the threat level continues to rise, we have organized an emergency evacuation of our employees working in the country, relocating them to safe houses in western Ukraine. In the meantime, we are doing everything we can to ensure the safety and well-being of our teams."

Ikonia is built on the belief that the Metaverse will become more important than the real world. Art will become more important in the Metaverse. It will be a way for people to connect with their history, their heritage and their humanity. "Ikonia's mission, therefore, is to bring moments of great cultural, historical or other significance from the real world and create monuments in the metaverse by building NFT gallery ideas that are as meaningful to people in the real world as they are to people in the metaverse.
