Blockchain games are critical to the growth and development of the NFT industry. Some of the most famous NFTs can be purchased in the game.
There is a lot of money flowing through cryptocurrencies and a large part of it is in the cryptocurrency gaming business. No one knows the exact statistics, but since blockchain transactions are transparent, there are some lists on the shelves of the most expensive cryptocurrency purchases ever made.
The most popular assets sold in games as NFTs are land and characters. Many investors have purchased properties in major games such as Sandbox, Decentraland, and Axie Infinity. Many additional high-priced NFTs have been sold due to the story behind them or the popularity of the game. A shortlist of some of the most expensive NFTs sold in blockchain games can be found here.
4.3 million for a piece of land in the sandbox
A company has purchased a property in The Sandbox metaverse for a record $4.3 million, setting a new high for virtual land prices.
The land was purchased from Atari SA by Republic Realm, a company that invests in and develops virtual real estate and other digital assets. This is the largest metaverse real estate sale to date.
With over 19 worlds, Republic Realm controls approximately 2,500 digital parcels. The company occasionally decides to sit on an undeveloped metaverse land and wait for it to appreciate in value. Other times, it hires game developers to build virtual homes or arcades after paying architects to design them.
2.43 million Decentraland's land
Tokens.com's Metaverse Group purchased a piece of digital real estate for 618,000 mana ($2.43 million at the time). The land was located in the "Fashion District" of Decentraland.
Landing Axie Infinity for $2.33 million
NFT collectors will also enjoy Land in Axie Infinity. The Land of Creation in the heart of the game is the most elusive of all. The cheapest land in the game world is apparently the Savannah property outside the game world. Although all lands are the same size, the type of land seems to affect the resources it produces for future land gaming. The following are some of the most expensive lands in the game.
- Genesis Land – 550 ETH / $2.33 million – November 24, 2021
- 9 Genesis Lots – 888.25 ETH / $1.5 million – February 8, 2021
- 2x Genesis Land – 569 Ether / $1.29 million – July 8, 2021
It's not surprising to see Axie Infinity's monster on the list next to the land – it's one of the most popular cryptocurrency games of all time, as well as one of the top NFT games and best money-making games. It has a very high "entry fee", requiring hundreds of dollars to play. One of the most expensive NFTs in the game, The Mystic Axie, is priced at 300 ETH (about $1.1 million).
The first NFT game CryptoKitties released news of how much people were prepared to bet on the colored kittens. Dragon, a lavender kitten, was the most expensive ever to be auctioned, fetching 600 ETH. While this would now be close to $2.3 million, at the time it was still a staggering $1.3 million price tag, more than double that of the second most expensive cat (Founder Cat #18) – still at 253 ETH, or about half a million at the time.
Card games are a popular choice for the NFT project team because they fit well with the collectible nature of NFT games. Gods Unchained is undoubtedly one of the most popular. There are many cards in the game NFT, but only one is obvious – and that is Hyperion. Hyperion is the game's Genesis Titan, a rare and completely unique card (there is only one). It sold for 137 Eth, which was about $60,000 at the time of sale. Now it costs over a million dollars.
NFT and blockchain gaming are inextricably linked. Many believe that games like Cryptokitties sparked the NFT business. That's why we see a lot of high priced NFTs being sold from games. The market is still growing, so there are plenty of options for collectors and investors who want to buy NFTs for games.
